The much beloved festive tale of self-knowledge, regret and redemption! This adaptation goes back to the novel's roots as a classic Victorian ghost story. There are scares, laughs and heart-breaks along the way to a suitably happy ending, without forgetting that the plight of the most vulnerable is our shared responsibility.

There are song and dance scenes in the script. It is suggested to use traditional Christmas Carols and also a sea shanty for the ship scene. Choice of songs is left up to production.
"A satisfying and faithful new adaptation!"
Phillippa Hammond, Sussex Playwrights

"... perfect pre-Christmas piece of theatre"
Chris Attwell, Councillor for St Thomas Ward
"Really captures the spirit and morals of Dickens' book.  The values of looking after the needy and vulnerable are just as relevant today as they were in 1843....  the production is true to the book and makes clever use of an engaging narrator to thread the narrative together."
Ruth Nilsson, Davison CE High School for Girls

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde

Minimum Cast: Two - 2M or 2F or 1F & 1M
Maximum Cast: Sixteen - 3F, 7M, 6 F or M
Running Time: 60 minutes
Suitable for Adult & Young Adult Audiences
A brilliant new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Gothic chiller. A tale of the duality of human nature, how we can have both good and evil inside of us. And how important it is for us to acknowledge this - for if we don’t we can end up being taken over by or giving into our worst desires.
Picture
At the time it was written, it was also very much commentary on the duality of Victorian society - the difference which existed between the outward, expected rules of propriety and respectability and the inner, private world of an individual’s life and desires. In many ways this is still relevant to the world we live in today, especially where social media allows us to create and project an idealised, outward version of ourselves, which may be very different to the inner, lived experience of an individuals’ life.

This pacy adaptation is set in the Victorian era and uses the original dialogue and text, but draws out a modern sensibility in the way the characters are all very recognisably characters we might meet today, their wishes and desires very much the wishes and desires we still have today.

Hansel & Gretel

Cast: Five - 2F, 2M & 1 M or F (Bird character)
Running Time: 80 minutes
Suitable for All Ages
(Depending on the production very young children may find the witch scary!)
Picture
Cooking up all the magic of the original story, but with a refreshing new sensibility, Hansel and Gretel will make a host of new friends with their treacly tale. Dancing, magic and pebble-hunting, baked together and dusted with fresh new characters, a witty script and plenty of imagination, bring enchantment and delight to children and adults alike.
The story starts in a small village, deep in the heart of the Black Forest, when a handsome young woodcutter marries a temptingly mysterious woman. His children don’t like her, but they also don’t like doing their chores or village life! Bread-hating, cake-loving, tomboyish Gretel wants to leave the boring old forest for the excitement of the city and shy, sensitive Hansel – he doesn’t want to cut down trees, he wants to paint them!

What kind of a spell has their new stepmother put on Hansel and Gretel’s father?... Can the bird outside the cottage really talk?... And why is there the scent of gingerbread wafting through the trees?...

A show with a heart, about growing up, learning to love your family and not always getting what you want!

The Hound of the Baskervilles

Minimum Cast: Six - 2F, 4M
Maximum Cast: Eleven - 4F, 7M
Running Time: 80 minutes
Suitable for Adult & Young Adult Audiences
Picture
One of Sherlock Holmes' most famous stories. Increasingly haunted in the last few days of his life by the sinister legend of the hound of the Baskervilles, Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on the moor by Baskerville Hall. Declared a simple case of heart failure by the coroner, but friend and neighbour, Dr. Mortimer is not convinced. Disturbed by the idea that darker forces are at play and fearful for the life of the new heir - Sir Henry Baskerville - he pays a visit to the world famous consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes.
His story piques the interest of the brilliant mind, who, however chooses to send the ever faithful Dr. Watson as his deputy to accompany Sir Henry Baskerville to Baskerville Hall. Watson and Sir Henry alone attempt to unravel the complicated tangle of affairs in Dartmoor while the net draws ever tighter and the terrible howls draw ever closer .... but where is Sherlock Holmes?
